🟠 TypeScript 7 breaks CDK synth via ts-node

Upgrading typescript to 7.0.2 breaks the CDK app entry point. cdk synth (configured in cdk.json as npx ts-node bin/app.ts) crashes with:

TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'fileExists')
    at readConfig (node_modules/ts-node/dist/configuration.js:91:33)

ts-node@10.9.2 calls require('typescript').sys, but TypeScript 7.0.2’s CJS entry (lib/version.cjs) only exports version and versionMajorMinor; it no longer exposes the sys object or the full compiler API. I verified this in the sandbox: npm run build succeeds, but npm run synth fails with the above error. Reverting to typescript@6.0.3 restores synthesis.

To merge this upgrade, either:

  • Update the toolchain to a ts-node / tsx configuration that supports TypeScript 7, or
  • Replace the app command in cdk.json with a runner that pre-compiles with tsc before invoking the CDK CLI.

As it stands, the deploy path is broken.

Resolved by the latest commit. The author replaced ts-node with tsx in package.json and cdk.json, so cdk synth no longer crashes. I verified locally with the new HEAD (4199ad5): npm run build and npm run synth both succeed, and the CDK template is emitted as expected. Closing this thread.
